about
Our first self-produced single is named after the iconic tram which ferries the young and drunk of Melbourne’s inner-north suburbs, and reflects on the immortalised nights we spent on that tram, forging lifelong bonds and making mistakes we'd grow to love. There's soaring violin lines; there's choir chanting; there's hearts on sleeves. We hope you grin like a child while you listen <3
lyrics
Well I told my boys I'd be home before too late
Cos the last band's wrapping up now
And last round's on its way
I would've stayed to say I missed you, dear
With a beer on a Thursgay night
But I heard the bell ring out
Of The 86 outside
Well I told my boys I'd be close when bad times come
May the rain wash down upon you
And upon your future son
Like smoke in the back of a Smith Street club we rise
From sighs of forgotten foes
Across the street we sing
The 86 tram home
May the drinks be cheap
In the tallest glass
May tomorrow come
But not too fast
May the drinks be cheap
In the tallest glass
May tomorrow come
But not too fast
Well I told myself of a path laid out to take
That my father walked before me
And could lead to the same mistake
Till somebody loves you right
And you feel it clear
What fearing yourself might do
I ain't home yet but I'm on
The 86 home to you
May the drinks be cheap
In the tallest glass
May tomorrow come
But not too fast
May the drinks be cheap
In the tallest glass
May tomorrow come
But not too fast
May tomorrow come
But not too fast
